The Sound - Hour Of Need (1980)
The Sound, Hour Of Need...
...From the album 'Jeopardy'
It was released on the Korova Records label. The band being label mates with the likes of Echo & The Bunnymen.
I think pretty much every track on the album is awesome. Check out my other post The Sound, Heartland, and as a note to self, must blog more of The Sound!

Prior to The Sound Adrian Borland had been part of a Punk Band called The Outsiders in 1977 producing albums 'Calling On Youth' and 'Close Up'
both L.P.'s on the indie Raw Edge label. By 1978/79 they had dissolved, Adrian along with Graham Bailey formed the band Second Layer, see post: Second Layer on this site.
After Second Layer Borland and Bailey continued, but with The Sound. The original band were
- Adrian Borland (Vocals, Guitar)
- Graham Bailey (Bass)
- Mike Dudley (Drums)
- Benita Marshall (Keyboards)
They made their debut on the 'Tortch' label before eventually signing to Korova Records. They split in 1988 following a tour of Spain the previous year in which Borland suffered a breakdown. He carried on on a solo career for a number of years but sadly, Adrian took his own life in 1999 after mental health issues he had been diagnosed with for some time eventually took their toll, see the Mind website for more background on his condition.
I feel that they are on par with the likes of Joy Division and even today I hear so many bands that have the same edge and seem to draw influence from The Sound, I personally don't feel they quite got the full recognition they deserved as being one of post-punk musics all time greats...but, hey! you judge that for yourselves.
