Preposterous Tales...

I think just about everybody at some point in their lives has met or known a Ken McKenzie type of character. You know, the type of person that over exaggerates and embellishes tales to the point that it becomes, well just preposterous I guess (I know it well, I went to school with someone very similar)...

Seemed fairly apt using the picture above as the film 🎥 'Gregory's Girl' celebrated its 40th birthday in April!

...Anyway, the band I, Ludicrous were formed in South London around the mid '80s, with their sharp wit, observational humour, wickedly amusing songs and song titles they were likened to The Fall (they supported them on some of their tours) and Half Man Half Biscuit.

This particular track was originally produced on flexi-disc and evidently given away in a paper bag in Blah,Blah,Blah Fanzine back in the day.

It was championed by John Peel and the track made it into his 'Festive Fifty'.

The band lineup is:
  • John Procter
  • David Rippingdale (aka Will Hung)
  • Drum Machine
Evidently they met whilst working at a data centre and shared a love of humour and of course The Fall.

Their wit is in songs such as:

- Stuck in a lift with Noel Edmonds
- Moynihan brings out the hooligan in me
- Three English Football Grounds
- My baby's got jet-lag

And equally amusing album titles including:

- Dull is the new Interesting
- Songs from the sides of Lorries

This particular track 'Preposterous Tales - In the Life of Ken McKenzie' is taken from the album 'It's Like Everything Else' released in 1987 on the Independent Kaleidoscope Sound record Label started by Joe Foster the co-founder of Creation Records.
They are still kicking about and their website is at: http://www.iludicrous.co.uk
