Young Man (Seeks An Interesting Job)

It's Immaterial - Young Man (Seeks An Interesting Job) -  Originally released on the Hit Machine label in 1980.

With a picture of a very young Franz Kafka on the cover.

Lyrically pretty sound and describing a school leavers vain attempts to get a job, despite having 5 'O'Levels and offering to do anything 'legal', back in the days of the early 80's when a job would have been a rare and sought after commodity in many parts of the country. Also seeming reasonably apt with education being thrown into turmoil this year due to the pandemic and leaving many students and teachers in a demanding and stressful place (our kid just finishing GCSES!😱)

Quite surprisingly I learned that this was originally recorded by a band in the 1960's called The First Impression...

It was released on a 1967 album called The First Impression/Russ Sainty - Swinging London have a look on discogs at Swinging London ....Groovy baby!

Interesting website which talks about their work and mentions the above original is at: https://postpunkmonk.com/2011/08/03/those-first-impressions-its-immaterial-debut-single/

The band's lineup originally contained Henry Priestman, known for being in the other Liverpudlian bands The Chuddy Nuddies (on this blog at The Chuddy Nuddies, Do the Chud), The Yachts and later The Christians.

It's Immaterial hit the UK Charts in 1986 with their song 'Driving Away From Home (Jim's Tune) which reached the giddy heights of #18 and featuring the then departed Priestman who returned for that single as a session musician.

The band have a website here http://its-immaterial.co.uk and appear at least in 2019 to have released an album.
