Sheffield Post Punk - Sounds to Fill the Vacuum
I'm So Hollow...
Entrance
More Sheffield Post Punk with the band I'm So Hollow. This track 'Entrance' from the 1981 Album Emotion Sound Motion released on the Illuminated Records Label, the label being set up by Keith Bagley in 1980 and specializing in Post Punk releases, other artists with releases on the label were Sex Gang Children, 23 Skidoo, Dormannu and D.A.F.
....And They Were
The band Lineup was:
Vocals/Keyboards - Jane Wilson
Guitar/Vocals - Rod Leigh
Bass - Gary Marsden
Drums - Yosef Sawicki
They started out in 1978 and sadly by 1981 had disbanded. Their first and only 7" release was Sounds to Fill the Vacuum in 1980 actually on the Hollogram Record Label (which I am guessing was their own self financed release).
Rod Leigh was to go on and perform with band Workforce on the 12" called 'Skin Scraped Back' released on Doublevision Record Label which was set up by Cabaret Voltaire for themselves and other industrial/experimental artists.
I'm So Hollow are also featured on the Various Artists Compilation 'Beats Working For A Living (Rare Forgotten Demos 73-84) which also contains demos from bands such as Pulp, Chakk, The Past Seven Days and Artery, you can check out the listing at Discogs at the link above
Peel Session & Futurama Fest
In their day they supported other post punk band Clock DVA, performed at the Leeds Futurama Festival in 1980 and also recorded a 'Peel Session'.
The track listing for the Peel Session:
- Fashion
- Which Way?
- Monotony
- Dreams To Fill The Vacuum
